The oil and gas industry belongs to the areas of increased danger, which is due to many objective factors. The harsh climate in most mining regions, remoteness from cities, work with complex equipment, processes in which often take place at high temperatures and pressures. All this requires the use of special methods and technologies to ensure human safety in the workplace.

Safe production

JSC Gazpromneft MZSM has a transparent, understandable and enforceable system of rules that ensures reliable labor protection for each employee. Every employee of the company and contractors has the right to stop or refuse to perform an operation that may harm human health. During the implementation of work, the compliance of operations with safety requirements is constantly monitored.

The company involves contractors in the industrial safety system, in contracts with which it includes requirements for compliance with the rules and regulations of the regions of operation, as well as corporate industrial safety requirements. Before the conclusion of contracts for essential technical operations, an audit of the technical condition of equipment, qualifications of personnel and management systems in the field of industrial safety, implemented by the contractor, is carried out. The company is implementing the Safe Production project aimed at increasing the level of industrial safety, improving working and rest conditions for employees of contractors.

Security foundation

A construction site always carries a higher risk of injury, and this risk is amplified when the work is done in the taiga or tundra. As a result, JSC Gazpromneft MZSM pays special attention to safety regulations when constructing infrastructure on new fields. A safety checklist is one of the methods for monitoring compliance with safety standards that has been established at the facilities under construction in the exploration and production unit as part of the Security Fundamentals project. It comprises a set of mandatory requirements that must be met before construction and installation work may begin.

These aren’t just theoretical requirements; they’re based on a factor analysis of workplace injuries. A manager, or even a non-core employee of a company or a contractor, can analyze the risks before beginning work and during its implementation with the use of a checklist. This simple tool does not require any particular training to use.

Digital security

JSC Gazpromneft MZSM is implementing a series of projects for the implementation of digital methods for analyzing the state and risk management in industrial safety. The basis of the digital system for analyzing the work of barriers standing in the way of possible incidents is the industrial safety platform, where information from many sources flows. It makes it possible to assess the state of barriers at all levels – from a single production site to the entire corporation.

The company is putting video analytics systems and wearable devices to the test in large numbers. “Smart cameras” and sensors allow for real-time monitoring of personal protection equipment use, determining people’s physical conditions, analyzing personnel behaviors in hazardous places, and even identifying health-threatening circumstances. The use of augmented and virtual reality technologies in the process of teaching industrial safety regulations and conduct in critical situations is another area of the company’s IT research.

Countering the COVID-19 pandemic

The company operates a comprehensive large-scale anti-COVID-19 program “Antivirus”. It is aimed at protecting employees, ensuring the continuity of all production processes, and maintaining the financial stability of the company. To prevent the spread of infection and minimize the risk of production shutdown, JSC Gazpromneft MZSM has developed over 70 corporate barriers. These include the creation of a safe environment at the company’s facilities using a system of regular mandatory testing, the creation of buffer terminals in which shift workers are quarantined before entering the field, the transfer of some employees to a remote mode of work, the creation of our own IT solutions for operational monitoring and control of the situation.
